The University of Westminster was founded in 1838 as the Royal Polytechnic Institution in Regent Street, central London. It closed in 1881, and was re-founded the following year.In 1971 it became the Polytechnic of Central London, becoming an independent university under its current name in 1992. It occupies a number of buildings, mainly in the City of Westminster.

LGBT history

The University hosted the older people's brunch for Opening Doors before the London Pride parade in 2015 and 2016.

It was the venue for the second day of the LGBTQALMS Conference in 2016.
