The Equality Act 2006 set up the Equality and Human Rights Commission which was to work for the elimination fo prejucide on any of the following grounds:

  • age
  • disability
  • gender
  • gender reassignment
  • race
  • religion or belief
  • sexual orientation'

The Act also specifically banned discrimination on the grounds of religion or belief and sexual orientation.

The provisions of the Act have now been superseded by the Equality Act 2010
