The CAGS Tennis Group was formed in 1977 and originally played at Park Hill, Croydon. In 1981 it moved to Trumble Gardens, Thornton Heath, but the state of the courts had been deteriorating for some time, and there had occasionally been homophobic abuse from local youths.
