The London 2018 project started in 2010, before the Cologne Gay Games, and the charitable entity was established in 2012, when it had to start paying fees for participating in the bid. In 2011, the Prime Minister hosted a reception celebrating LGBT sport to help promote the London 2018 bid.

Sport London is a charity set up by members of London’s LGBT sport, culture and social groups in order to bid to host the London 2018 Gay Games. The charity and bid were established by Jonathan Harbourne. The London 2018 project started in 2010, before the Cologne Gay Games, and the charitable entity was established in 2012, when it had to start paying fees for participating in the bid. In 2011, the Prime Minister hosted a reception celebrating LGBT sport to help promote the London 2018 bid.
