The movement towards marriage equality in Scotland has been proceeding somewhat in advance of that in England (See Marriage equality for the general background and the situation in the rest of the UK).
The Scottish Government held a consultation exercise starting on the 2nd of September 2011. The cosnultation closed on the 9th of December, and there were 50,000 responses.[1]
In Scotland the campaign for equal marriage is being organised by The Equality Network.[2]
