Outhouse East is a charity (now known as The Outhouse) that provides support and information to the LGBT people of Essex. It is based in Colchester town centre and provides a range of services and groups free of charge.
It was founded in 1979 as a one night a week helpline called Colchester Gay Switchboard. Its founding was linked to the Colchester CHE Group.[1] "" Outhouse’s 2022 Statement shows total reserves of £911,511 and states that: "Our funding has exceeded our objectives this year. Our grant income within these accounts amounts to £627,438". The amount given by Colchester Council and Outhouse's gender ideology promotion was challenged at a Colchester Council Cabinet meeting on 12 July 2023.
