Chelmsford is the county town of Essex and also the name of the surrounding local government district, which became a city in 2012.

There was a Chelmsford GLF in 1972.
Norman Antony Francis St John-Stevas was the MP for Chelmsford 1964-87. He then entered the House of Lords.
Lord Black of Brentwood was born in Chelmsford.
The Chelmsford Gay Day, first held in 2003, was re-branded Essex Pride in 2009.[1]
