Norman Antony Francis St John-Stevas (1929-2012) was a prominent Conservative politican. He was MP for Chelmsford 1964-1987, and then a member of the House of Lords. His partner of over fifty years was Adrian Stanford. They met each other in 1956 at Oxford, where Lord St John taught Stanford law. They entered into a civil partnership shortly before Lord St John's death enabling only the latter to face inheritance tax when he dies.[1]
