Ryedale is a local government district in North Yorkshire. It was created in 1974, and reduced in size in 1996 when the City of York was expanded.
The council headquarters are in Malton.
LGBT history
Saint Aelred was Abbot of Rievaulx from 1147.
The Scarborough And Ryedale Gay Community Network was registered as a charity in 2001, but removed from the register in 2007[1]
In January 2014 the MP for Thirsk and Malton, Anne McIntosh, was deselected by her local Conservative Association following a record of voting against equal marriage and other measures for LGBT equality.[2]
