'''Spousal veto''' is a phrase used to describe a provision of the [[Marriage (Same-Sex Couples) Act 2013]]. Prior to the passing of the Act, a married person wishing to have [[gender recognition certificate]] would have to have a divorce. The Act removed this requirement, but instead provided that a married person would have to have the written consent of their spouse if they wished to have a GRC and remain married. This "spousal veto" has been unpopular with trans people, and is not expected to be included in the equivalent legislation in [[Scotland]].
