The meetings were established following the appointment of [[Richard Barnes]] as statutory Deputy Mayor of London on 6 May 2008 under Mayor [[Boris Johnson]]. Barnes, the first LGBT Deputy Mayor of London, chaired the meetings — held twice a year — bringing together representatives from a wide range of London's LGBT organisations to discuss policy, health, equality, education, and community safety.
