+The cup was inaugurated by the [[International Gay Rugby Association and Board]] (IGRAB) following an informal tournament in Washington DC in May 2001. It commemorates Mark Kendall Bingham, a gay American businessman who played for the gay rugby team the San Francisco Fog. He was a victim of the 9/11 attacks in 2011 and is thought to have been one of the passengers who attempted to regain control of United Airlines Flight 93 from the hijackers.
