St Peters House Project
SPH was started by Paul Fricker in 1987. He was inspired to help people diagnosed with HIV and AIDS at that time when there was little understanding and no treatment or support available. He began with a telephone helpline, then expanded support to a “Buddy” system. The goal was a safe haven – a house where comfort and sanctuary would be available to those in need. Since then the needs of people living with HIV have changed with the introduction of effective drug treatment, and SPH now focuses on providing practical and social support to people living with HIV who may be challenged by poverty, discrimination and isolation.
