Cheshire West and Chester

unitary authority in Cheshire, north-west England. It comprises the City of Chester, plus the surrounding area including the southern part of the Wirral peninsula and Ellesmere Port. Chester was an important military centre in Roman times, and has many distinctive buildings dating from the middle ages and later.
There was a Chester CHE group in the 1970s.
